Hi, I’m Elizabeth Hale.

Elizabeth Hale is a California-based author with a cozy heart, a sharp wit, and strong opinions about hugs (she's entirely pro). She is powered by books, feelings, sarcasm, and at least one ongoing internal monologue. She spends most of her days playing chauffeur and social planner to her two young humans, helping her wife remember all the things she forgot, and searching for any-sized cool spot in the hot Los Angeles heat.

She is deeply family-oriented, hilariously self-aware, and always in search of beauty, belonging, and a life that feels genuine.

She has been writing — professionally, personally, and everything in between — for over twenty years.

Every Almost is her debut novel.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS for ELIZABETH

What is Every Almost about?

Every Almost is an adult sapphic sci-fi romance about Charlie Wickett, a human aerospace engineer who accidentally transports herself 40 lightyears away on New Year's Day, 1990 to the CMS Emberkind, an inter-galactic spaceship whose whole purpose is to care for, transport, and rescue interstellar animals across the universe. She arrives with nineteen music cassette tapes, a friendship bracelet, and absolutely no idea how to get home. The ship's captain — a Kaelari alien named Reyna Solas who has had seventy years of perfect emotional control — is about to discover that none of it prepared her for Charlie Wickett.

It's a slow burn found family love story set in space, and it will wreck you in the best possible way.

Is this a standalone or part of a series?

Every Almost is Book One of the Emberkind Series — but it is a complete story with a guaranteed happily ever after. Each book in the series follows a different romantic pairing aboard the same ship, so you get a new love story every time while staying with characters you already love.

How many books are planned in the series?

Three books are currently planned, each following a different romantic pairing within the same world.. Book One (Every Almost) follows Charlie and Reyna. Every book is a complete love story with a guaranteed happily ever after. A new couple, the same found family, and all the slow burn your heart can handle.

Is this book appropriate for me? What's the content level?

Every Almost is written for adult readers (18+). It contains a slow burn sapphic romance, emotional themes including grief and displacement, and intimate content between the main characters. If you love your romance on the slower side with a lot of longing and a payoff that's absolutely worth the wait, this book was written for you.

I love slow burn romance. How slow are we talking?

Aggressively slow. Gloriously slow. "They are clearly in love and everyone on the ship knows it except them" slow. Reyna has seventy years of perfect emotional control and has never once met her match. Charlie arrived on the Emberkind with absolutely no idea that, maybe, the stars were waiting for her for a completely different reason than she’d always thought.

Do I need to know anything about science fiction to enjoy this?

Absolutely not. The science fiction elements are the backdrop, not the focus. If you love found family, slow burn romance, and emotional character relationships, Every Almost is for you regardless of whether you've ever picked up a sci-fi book in your life. Think less "hard science fiction" and more "maybe my found family happens to live on a spaceship."

What's the Emberkind?

The Emberkind is an interspecies animal rescue vessel operating in Coalition space — essentially a wildlife rescue ship for alien creatures. It's crewed by species from across the galaxy, all of whom have very strong opinions about Charlie Wickett and whether she and the captain are going to get their act together.
